Application Process for Manager's Certificate
Step 1: Complete your LCQ course and wait for your LCQ certificate.
Step 2: Once you have received your LCQ Certificate, you can apply for your Manager's Certificate at your local council through the District Licensing Committee.
- An application form along with one photocopy of the form obtainable from the local council - most have them downloadable on their website
- A copy of photo identification
- A copy of proof of eligibility to work in New Zealand (if applicable)
- A copy of your Licence Controller Qualification certificate
- A letter from the employer of the licensed premises where you are working or a letter from the Club you are working at showing your involvement
- A written character reference
Step 3: The Licencing Inspector will invite you to a formal interview with questions about the LCQ course and specific questions about your licenced premises. Some councils will send out written questions instead of inviting you to an interview; this varies from council to council. Make sure to brush up on your LCQ knowledge before this interview, and be well aware of the conditions of your licence.

Step 4: Once you have completed the interview or written test, you will receive your Manager's Certificate in the post. It is valid for one year initially and may be renewed for up to three years.
Remember: You are responsible for renewing your Manager's Certificate before it expires. If you miss your expiry date, you might have to redo the LCQ course and apply for a new Manager's Certificate at your local council. Some councils will send out reminders; some councils will not.
