Standard Drink Sizes

In New Zealand, the standard drink sizes are defined by the Ministry of Health as follows:

1.     Beer - A standard beer is 330ml, which contains 1.3 standard drinks. However, many bars and restaurants serve larger portions, such as a pint (568ml) which contains 2.3 standard drinks.

2.     Wine - A standard glass of wine is 100ml, which contains 1 standard drink. However, a typical restaurant pour of wine is 150ml, which contains 1.5 standard drinks, and many people consume larger glasses or multiple glasses.

3.     Spirits - A standard serve of spirits is 30ml, which contains 1 standard drink. However, many bars and restaurants serve larger measures of spirits, such as 50ml, which contain 1.7 standard drinks.

It's important to note that these are only guidelines, and the actual alcohol content of a drink can vary depending on the brand and strength of the alcohol, as well as the size of the pour. It's always a good idea to be aware of the alcohol content of the drinks you are supplying to customers and to encourage drink responsible drinking behaviours.
